World War Profiles: WWll USA
Franklin Townley
SESSION #1
(i) TIME & PLACE: I live in USA, New Jersey. The date I'm writing this at is 19th August of 1939.
(ii) BIRTH DATE: I was born here, at my city New Jersey in a hospital near my house the 9th April of 1921 so right now, how you can count, I'm 18th years old.
(iii) PROFESSION: Right before I enlisted to the military training, I was starting the university in New Jersey's Talent Higher Education and I also plan have a degree after the war about it in some years, but that was at the morning, because at the afternoons I used to help my dad repairing cars at his car workshop business.
(v) FAMILY: My family basically consists in my dad Joseph, and my brother Lamar who moved with his girlfriend away to Miami a few years ago and for obvious reasons, I don't see him very often since he moved away. And for conclude the family concept, my mom Elizabeth was also part but she died a few years ago in a car crash returning home from de work she had at CEO of an important fabric; and now, my father and I, pay respects everytime we can to that great woman we will always have in our hearts.
(vi) MY REGULAR DAILY LIFE (before the World War was declared): Well.. a regular day like any other in my life before I enlisted to the military, consisted in waking up at 6am to then at 7:30am in the morning be at the school classroom I was assigned to. Then all the morning and a little bit of the afternoon was all for school until 4pm, when I return to eat with my dad at the car workshop and then we both go to fix cars until 10pm and at the end we go home and have some rest.
(vii) PERSONAL REASON FOR ENLISTING IN THE WORLD WAR CONFLICT ONCE IT STARTS: The personal reason why did I enlisted was basically because I really wanted to help my country at something important since I'm very good at shooting with snipers and my dad would be proud of me, so I decided to do it.
(ix) NATIONAL REASON FOR ENLISTING IN THE WORLD WAR CONFLICT ONCE IT STARTS: I think the national main reason for all in general to enlist us in is that we are in danger every moment that passes so we also wanted the country that looked us borning, see us proud.
(viii) YOUR WORLD WAR ROLE: As I said before at my personal reasons to join the military, I'm very good at sniping because when I was a little kid entering the high school, my dad taught me to hunt at the forest so I really trust in myself to hunt some enemy soldiers. So for that reason, I choose to be part of the soldier sniper crew.
(x) PROFILE PICTURE:
1. Life for a soldier, just like me, American, proud of the country that saw me born, which is fighting in the Battle of Iwo Jima and/or Okinawa, it is a little bit of scary and of course sad, because we lost so many partners, but we also are proud we could get revenge for our fallen angels.
2. THE CONFLICT CONTEXT: The time was February, 1945 and the place was the famous japanese island: Iwo Jima. I've experienced everything you can imagine, I even felt bad every time I shot with my sniper a japanese soldier who were just there for emergency but anyways, It was sad because every hour someone came to advertise me I need to hurry up or there are more partners of mine getting shoot, even friends I have made, so as you can expect, I was sad but angry at the time I shoot every bullet.
3. TECHNOLOGY: Some examples of technology I have heard about while shooting, was that it is very possible atomic bomb incoming which I think it would be totally crazy from the government because the conflict is with Japan and it's soldiers, not innocent childs that could get hurt (That motivated us even more, we needed to win this battle to make the U.S government reflect if an atomic bomb it is actually sadic, which it is) and that's how we prevented at least for the moment a bigger disaster. And another technological thing I think can be also be good but as all guns, bad in the same way, we can talk about the V-2 rocket, the first ballistic missile weapon.
4. CHANGE vs CONTINUITY: My reasons to join the army since they were searching volunteers with some skills, were basically I wanted to make my dad really proud in a way he has not been never of me and also because I want to stop my U.S. brothers to get killed just because of the nationalism a crazy man named Adolf, had a few years ago. And as we are analysing the continuity of my thoughts after having an experience at the war, I clearly stay the same, now I saw everything is worst than in the newspaper at U.S., thousands of soldiers die per battle which is unacceptable and fool but it is what it is, even though everything changes for me at the moment I realize I'm protecting my father, so that's enough motivation for me.
